Health ministry take actions against helath workers .

The ministry of health intends to take serious actions as per the law against health workers who fail to account for the death of mothers and infants during the process of delivery.
The warning comes after some health facilities under particular districts have failed to comply with the Presidential directive for health workers to report every maternal death as a measure of accounting for the lives of mothers who die while giving birth.
Speaking at the dissemination workshop of the maternal and Perinatal death review findings, the state minister for Primary Health Care Sarah Opendi stressed the importance of such feedback from the health workers saying it helps in identifying the gaps and the relevant solutions.
According to the report, 87% of maternal deaths are not notified to the Ministry of health by the health units although notification of maternal deaths is mandatory
Opendi says as the ministry strives to address the common causes of maternal deaths, it is also going to take stringent actions upon health who fail to notify the authorities’ of the maternal deaths in their respective facilities.

Uganda adopted the maternal and Perinatal death Auditing in 2008 as approach of to improve the quality of health care in order for the country to reduce maternal mortality ratio by three quarters child mortality by two thirds by 2015.
However only 50% of the hospitals are conducting the Maternal and Perinatal Death Reviews, which are supposed to inform the policy makers and planners in order to respond to the problem accordingly.
