Lawmakers across the political divide have applauded the late Sam Njuba as a politician and an advocate who stood for peace, rule of law and democracy for his country.
Moving a motion for a resolution of parliament to pay tribute to the late Sam Njuba, Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi pointed out that even when he crossed to the opposition in 2001, Njuba kept on seeking for peace, reconciliation and sought a neutral position.
Mbabazi asked Parliament to officially recognize the contribution of Njuba right from the bush war struggles that led to the liberation of the country and to the constitution making in 1995. Mbabazi further hailed the late Njuba for offering free legal representation in courts of law to opposition politicians that were often arrested in demonstrations.
Seconding the motion, the leader of opposition Nandala Mafabi stressed that Ugandans should emulate the principles upheld by Njuba that were evident when he decided to move away from the NRM regime when it went off truck . Mafabi added that learning from his life, Uganda needs a national dialogue to address national issues that affect the majority of citizens.
The former lawmaker and minister will be buried this afternoon at Nangabo in Wakiso district.
