The parliamentary committee on Defence and Internal Affairs has again summoned the Defence minister Dr. Crispus Kiyonga and the Attorney General Peter Nyombi over the mandate of the UPDF in South Sudan.
This followed a report of Ugandan soldiers have died in the ongoing war in troubled country, yet the Parliament was informed that the troops are not involved in combat action.
A section of lawmakers noted that it was unfortunate for the executive to lie to the National Assembly about the role of the UPDF in Southern Sudan just for purposes of getting parliamentary approval.
Butambala County MP Mohammed Muwanga Kivumbi expressed disappointment over the conduct of the leaders in the executive which is resulted into parliamentary approval and now costing lives of Ugandans.
TRK Muwanga-Lying to Parliament
Bubulo County MP Simon Mulongo said that the minister and the attorney general should come out to clarify on the actual roles of the UPDF and details of the entire mission in South Sudan.
Mulongo says that the explanation from the authority would help to clarify Uganda’s position and parliament’s involvement in this mission.
