Senior Libyan officials carry luggage for Ugandans

The Humanitarian relief Caravan inpartnership with World Islamic Call Society (WICS) kicked off its journey to SangoBay to donate food items, medical supplies, scholastic materials, clothing and sanitary materials to over 5000 refugees who are in need of aid.

 

The humanitarians’ caravan set off today at Old Kampala mosque after being flagged off by the Minister of Uganda for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugee, Hillary Onek.

A team of doctors from Libya have also accompanied the Caravan. The contigent will arrive at Sango Bay Camp where they will provide free medical care to people suffering from diseases like diarrhea, malaria, pneumonia, malnutrition and other common diseases affecting the people in the camp.

Hillary Onek commended the World Islamic Call Society for an act of comradeship and pledged Uganda’s commitment to continue working with Libyans for the betterment of the livelihoods of the needy people in Uganda.

The Minister thanked the World Islamic Call Society Director in Uganda, Hajji Mohamed Khalifah Shatri for his efforts aimed at reaching out to Ugandans in need.

Mohamed Khalifah said the caravan comprised of about 35 tons of aid worth about 120 million Uganda shillings. The minister further said Libyans have always been there for Ugandans in both good and bad times. The delegation from Libya was led by Dr. Ali Daruuby and it was comprised of Dr. Abdul Hamid Riih, Dr. Amir Gazani, Nadir Ganiisi and an official from the Libyan Embassy in Uganda Nizar Osman.
