Kampala Capital City was covered in Teargas and live gunfire as Uganda Police Force was trying to stop people from celebrating the court victory of their beloved MPs Theodore Ssekikubo (Lwemiyaga), Mohammad Nsereko (Kampala Central), Wilfred Niwagaba (Ndorwa East) and Barnabas Tinkasimire’s (Buyaga) Supreme Court Ruling on Wednesday. In the process, seven people were wounded and scores of others were arrested for celebrating court victory.
The Supreme Court barred the Speaker of Parliament from implementing the orders of the Constitutional Court that had ejected the four Uganda’s ruling party MPs from Parliament. The Electoral Commission was also ordered to halt any process to replace the MPs Theodore Ssekikubo, Mohammad Nsereko, Wilfred Niwagaba and Barnabas Tinkasimire.
The five Judges of the Supreme Court ruled that the MPs must stay in Parliament until their main application in the same court is determined. The main application by the four MPs seeking to stop their expulsion from Parliament is fixed for hearing on March 21st, 2014.
