Speaker calls back rebel MPs

The Speaker of Uganda Parliament, Ms Rebecca Kadaga has announced that the four MPs being witchhunted by the government of Uganda are free to return to Parliament following a Supreme Court order.

The Supreme Court ordered the Speaker to stay her implementation of the Constitutional Court’s order that had disqualified the MPs Theodore Ssekikubo (Lwemiyaga), Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba (Ndorwa East), Hon. Mohammed Nsereko (Kampala Central) and Hon. Barnabas Tinkasiimire (of Buyaga West).

The 4 MPs were expelled from the ruling NRMO, which also wants the speaker of Parliameent to have them vacate their seats from Parliament.

The Constitutional Court ruled that the four MPs leave the House and ordered the Electoral Commission to conduct by elections in their respective constituencies.

However the Supreme Court gave the embattled MPs temporary reprieve, which the Speaker obeyed.
The order followed the substantive application for stay of execution of the lower court order and a temporary injunction is disposed of by the court.
