Various Journalists of the Uganda Parliamentary Press Association have appealed to government to change the name of the Marriage and Divorce Bill because it doesn’t sound positive.
The name of the bill has on a number of occasions been changed with the most recent being change from Domestic Relations Bill to the Marriage and Divorce Bill.
A senior reporter of WBS TV, Daniel Arap Moi told a workshop aimed at sensitizing Uganda parliamentary journalists on the Bill at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala that the name suggests that the bill aims at breaking families rather than building them because of the word ‘divorce’.
Journalists opposed to the name have proposed other names which they hope government will adopt.
A reporter with the Uganda Tabloid, The Red Pepper, Henry Mulindwa proposed the name to be changed to Marriage Protection Bill so that the Uganda public can have a positive interpretation of the bill.
