Students warn MPs against promoting foreign aid

Students have warned MPs against the promotion of foreign aid as the solution to sustainable development.

This warning came out during a mock debate that was organized on Tuesday to commemorate the Commonwealth day at the Parliament of Uganda.

The debate was chaired by the deputy speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah and it was attended by the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga.

The students who were selected from specific schools across the country argued that foreign aid given to Uganda is a threat to national sovereignty.

The debate was under the theme ‘the need for trade not aid, for sustainable development.’

The best debaters included Naluyima Samantha from GayazaHigh School. She told MPs that Uganda can survive without foreign aid and the future of the Uganda lies in promoting trade. Other debaters were from NtareSchool.
