Tribunal for homosexuals opened in Kampala

 

The Minister for Gender and Social Development, Mary Karooro Okurut launched a tribunal to hear complaints against discrimination and promote equal opportunities for all Ugandans including homosexuals.

The Equal Opportunities Commission Tribunal, according to Karooro will investigate, summon transgressors, hear complaints, give orders and promote rectification through mediation, arbitration and reconciliation. She says that the government can not let homosexuals be marginalised out there. The minister addressed this to the press on Tuesday.

She says her office has already approved the tribunal’s rules of procedure which would be gazetted by next week. Karooro urged the commission to attract publicity and sensitise communities about their activities. The commission’s chairperson is Rita Matovu and commission’s secretary is Catherine Amal.
