World Health Organisation report on sugar use

 

 

The World Health Organisation WHO) a fort night ago launched its first ever public consultation drive on the recommended levels of sugar intake by Ugandans and all people in the world at large.

The new WHO health guidelines provide people with recommendations to reduce health problems by half. The WHO report indicate that millions of people across the globe now suffer from non communicable diseases mainly cancers, chronical respiratory diseases, obesity, and cardiovascular due to poor use of sugar.

WHO recommends that ones sugar intake must not exceed 10% of energy intake per day, with 5% the target of sugar consumption. It says that sugar consumption should only be used to develop nutrient profiling of food.

Much of the sugar people eat is hidden in snacks, beers, sodas, tea, cakes and breads. However the WHO report doesn’t stop from taking intrinsitic sugars that are found in fruits.
