Government announces 1,000,000 jobs

The government is planning to employ 1,000,000 professional mental counselors for all the health centres across the country. The jobs will be officially announced by the Public Service Commission.

The commission will print out the job description, terms of service, academic qualification and salary scale of these counselors. The Assistant commissioner, integrated curative services, in the ministry of health, Dr Jackson Amone says that although there are already counselors in many health facilities especially in the area of HIV/AIDS counseling and testing, most of them were not recruited for the purpose but undertake it as an additional task.

Dr Jackson Amone says Uganda government recognizes the importance of counseling services in the country on grounds that it enables people to live a healthy life and work productively.

Uganda government intends to give these counselors skills and attitude in order to reach out to the population and enhance its livelihood. Counseling is necessary for the normal functioning of individuals and institutions.
