The Uganda National Council for Children has tasked Kampala Capital City Authority to start arresting members of the public that give out money to street children.
The executive secretary Uganda National Council for Children Martin Kiiza says that giving money to street children is not beneficial to these vulnerable children and it must be strongly discouraged by the relevant local authorities.
Speaking at the commemoration of the international Day for street children Kiiza said as the country tries to address the different factors that force children on to the street, Kampala Capital City Authority should implement its ordinance that discourages giving money to the street children.
The director of gender at Kampala Capital City Authority Harriet Mudondo says before the authority embarks on arresting people who give out money to the street children, it will first embark on sensitizing them against the act.
