Three Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers whom Al- Shabaab fighters killed in Mogadishu last week have been named.
They are Philip Baligeya (WO II), Albert Onzele (WO II) and Joseph Ochaya (Pte). They were killed during a fierce fight in which 13 al-Shabaab militants were also killed by the UPDF.
The burial arrangements for Baligeya, Onzele and Ochaya are underway. The Al Shabaab fighters donning suicide vests entered the Somali Parliament building, where the three UPDF officers were manning and killed them.
The MPs were safely evacuated. During the attack, many other UPDF soldiers also got injured. The injured UPDF officers also include Ronald Otim Kisa (Pte), Deo Dralu Asirafu (Pte) and Christopher Obwona (Lance Corporal). They are admitted in critical condition at the AMISOM Level II Hospital in Mogadishu. The spokesperson of Uganda’s AMISOM contingent, Maj. Deo Akiiki confirmed the development and commended the soldiers who get killed in Somalia for being brave.
