Hundreds of diplomats are prepared to attend this year’s centenary birthday celebrations of Norman E. Borlaug, who was credited for the Green Revolution through his use of high-yielding crops and better food production techniques.
Borlaug Noman was a specialist in agronomy (growing and management of crops in the field). He is remembered for saving over one billion people from hunger in the then heavily populated but food-deficient Asian countries of India, Pakistan and Mexico.
The celebrations are also part of the Source of the Nile Agricultural and Trade Show, which is being organised by the Uganda National Farmers’ Federation (UNFFE). This year’s celebrations will be held from July 7-13, 2014.
President Museveni is expected as Chief Guest.
