Professor Ernest Okello Ogwang holds a Ph.D in Literature-Folklore Major (Indiana University, Bloomington), an MA in Literature (Makerere University) and a BA (Hons.) Makerere University.
He is an accomplished publisher with a number of Peer Reviewed Books, Working Papers, and Edited Journals and Scholarly articles to his name. Prof. Ogwang’s areas of teaching and research include; African Literature, Folklore and Literature, Oral Literature, Folklore (Genres and Artifacts, Methods, Intellectual History, Performance), Ethnographic Field Research and Literary Theory and Criticsim.
Prof. Ernest Okello Ogwang taught various courses at Makerere University in the areas of; African Literature, Oral Literature, Literature and Folklore: fieldwork course, Caribbean Literature, Ritual and Literature, Comparative Epic Poetry, Postcolonial Literature and Criticism.
The professor has also participated in various consultancies with the Ministry of Education (1993-94), Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development (2005) and the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA).
