Business came on a standstill at Grand Imperial hotel in Kampala as the Kampala Capital City Authority sealed it off after getting information that the hotel managers were engaging in illegal renovation. Grand Imperial is a member of the imperial group of hotels that are run by Kampala city business man Karim Hirji.
The KCCA supervisor in charge of building management, Were Moses, says the onsite engineer Badru Biyinsa did not notify KCCA before such a “risky renovation.”
Were says the hotel will be sealed off as KCCA inspection team carries out the impact assessment of the whole building before it is granted full authority of the building. The onsite engineer Biyinsa was arrested and taken to police for further interrogation for flouting the KCCA laws. The KCCA management has also summoned Hirji to give his defence.
