Jacobsen Elektro Holdings AS, a Norwegian firm will commission the construction of a 100-megawatt Heavy Fuel Oil thermal power plant in Hoima District in 2016.
The Norwegian firm’s plant will cost $170m (Shs436.9b). About $25.5m (Shs65.5b) will be contributed by government of Uganda and the rest by the Norwegian firm.
The Norwegian firm plant will act as a spur to the establishment of industries in the area, which would create job opportunities for the unemployed people in Uganda.
The State minister for Energy, Simon D’Ujanga says that the Norwegian firm plant is needed to secure Uganda’s electricity supply. The project has come at a time when the demand for electricity in Uganda is increasing.
