workers mp urges workers to press for minimum wage

Workers Member of Parliament Arinaitwe Rwakajara has asked workers and all Ugandans to mount more pressure on government to fix the minimum wage as it pledged before the international Labour Organization.
This follows the minister of state for lobour Mwesigwa Rukutana put to task to explain its failure to establish a minimum wage at the last international labor organization conference held on 27th May this year in Geneva, Switzerland and he promised that Uganda will fix the minimum wage by July next year .
Addressing a news conference at his office in kampala Rwakajara said that the fixing of a minimum wage will increase the effectiveness and productivity among the workers to satisfy employers demands for high output .
He dispels claims that if minimum wage is fixed it will scare away investors and affect businesses .

He said that the minimum wage will workers to earn what they deserve without exploitation as it happens currently.
He welcomed president Yoweri kaguta’s remarks recently that he ready to discuss the issues related to minimum wage .
MPs Rwakajara and Paul Mwiru moved a private members bill motion before parliament seeking to revise the country’s minimum wage but he is saying is waiting the certificate of financial implication from the ministry of finance to support the bill financially.
He asked the government to appoint the minimum board to kick start the process of minimum wage to assess the employer’s capacity price to be paid as the minimum wage.
Uganda last set a minimum wage of 6, 000 shillings per month in 1984, which has remained in force to date.
