The Red Pepper on June 10, 2014 published a story in the ‘Hysteria’ column titled ‘Brig.NalweyisoErectsShs2BnMansion’.
The story was not only factually misleading and deceptive, but it also insinuated that Brig. Proscovia Nalweyiso had unfairly used her position as Senior Presidential Advisor on Defence and Security to enrich herself at the expense of public money, Public Resources and president Museveni’s cash.
Brig. Nalweyiso, however says that it is not true for instance by any stretch of the imagination that the alleged Shs2BnMansion in Matugga belongs to her, and no one knows for sure whether in fact it even exists in the first place.
Nalweyiso therefore states clearly and emphatically that she does not own any property in the area, and appeal to the readers of the Read Pepper not to take the report seriously.
Further more in the same story, the paper claims that Brig. Nalweyiso’s new position in the Special Forces Command is ‘head of the disciplinary committee’. Quite obviously, again, Brig. Nalweyiso is too senior to hold such a position in the Special Forces and this all but underscores the carelessness on the part of some of our journalists today. In a nutshell, Brig. Nalweyiso is a historical member of the NRA/UPDF who has enjoyed a distinguished and illustrious career made all the more remarkable because of her gender and in a field were few of her kind venture. It is not fair, even in the faintest terms, to malign her image.
