The Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura is in talks with the public service to turn CID into a fully-fledged directorate in order to reinvigorate its crime detection capabilities.

Gen. Kayihura confirmed the development when contacted at CID head offices in Kampala. He says turning CID into a fully fledged directorate is aimed at improving service delivery. The CID department is presently under the criminal investigations and intelligence directorate (CIID).

Uganda police in 2007 disbanded the Special Branch (SB) and came up with another but under CIID.
