The UN General Assembly was established in 1945. The 193 member UN body has been ruled by only 12 Africans. Out of the 12, two are from East African countries of Tanzania and Uganda.
The first politician to rule UN general assembly from East Africa is Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim (1979- 80). The second one is Mr. Sam Kuteesa from Uganda. Kutesa is currently the minister of Uganda in charge of Foreign Affairs.
If one asks Ugandans at rondom about Sam Kuteesa, their main answer would be, he was one day censured by parliament over corruption. Kuteesa is one of the Uganda government officials who mismanaged CHOGM funds in 2007.
