WHAT IS FISTULA?

 

A fistula is an abnormal connection between an organ, vessel, or intestine and another structure. Fistulas are mainly caused by injury or surgery, but they can also result from an infection or inflammation. Fistulas are ones of the disease conditions, but they can be treated surgically by surgeons. The doctors at Mulago hospital report that the number of women in Uganda suffering from fistula is on increase.

Dr. Susan Obore, a fistula surgeon at Mulago Hospital confirms the development and he says that some cases of fistula can not be treated in Uganda.
