Speaker explains pigs’ entry to parliament

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah has reassured MPs and Ugandans at large of their security following last Tuesday’s event in which opposition youths smuggled pigs into Parliament.

The development happened as Parliament had met for the first time following last week’s presentation of the National Budget for the financial year 2014/2015. Oulanyah syas he had held a meeting with the Parliament security team following the incident, now under investigation.

The youth entered parliament with pigs due to some sort of security lapse at that time. The Parliament Commission Police Station, which is charged with ensuring safety of the Parliament Building, Members while in the House, staff and visitors in the Building was in 2012 upgraded into a Directorate, headed a Commandant.
