Rape, Domestic Violence, Robbery, Thefts, and Shooting by security personnel have been singled out as some of the causes of increasing murders in northern Uganda.
This follows Gilbert Oulanya, MP, for Kilak County expressed concerns that the current wave of murders was worrying and requested that the Minister of Internal Affairs presents a status report on the situation of murder cases reported in Lira, Gulu, Nwoya and Amuru districts to parliament.
The minister of state for internal Affairs Ambassador James Baba reports that In Gulu District, 8 cases of murder have been registered since January, 2014 to date, In Nwoya 6 cases of murder have been registered while In Lira District, 12 cases of murder have been registered and In Amuru District, 9 cases were reported .
Baba says that in an effort to fight the crime the police has commenced vigorous registration of resident aliens in Gulu district especially the South Sudanese and the District Security Committees have been instructed to meet more regularly to address the crime and security threats in the affected districts.
