Religious leaders have asked national leaders to act in a manner that support their efforts of ensuring the society is morally upright.
This comes after lawmakers on the Parliamentary Committee on Gender , labour and Social Development chaired by workers MP Arinatwe Rwakajara noted that the religious leaders had abandoned their cardinal responsibility of upholding morals among their followers which has resulted into rampant social vices.
Chairing the parliamentary committee currently handing a petition on child sacrifice and ritual murders, Rwakajara said that Churches ought to play its role but this has not been satisfactorily done.
However Dr. Joseph Sserwanda of the Born Again Faith Federation assured that that much as the religious institutions are playing their part to guide the population of the righteous ways of living, those in government have let them down.
Pastor Sserwanda says the leaders themselves have been seen going to shrines yet in the public domain the same leaders acclaim to be followers of different religions and beliefs.
Sserwanda further noted that on part of the errant elements in the Born again and Pentecostals, the registration of churches under the NGO Board Act has worsened the situation by giving certificates to whoever that wants to start a church.
He said this makes it hard for the born again bodies to regulate people approved and licensed by the ministry of internal affairs.
