former Vp Bukenya to appear before the committee over his pay

Parliaments committee on public service and local government has summoned former vice president and mp for Busiro north over the controversies regarding receiving his retirement benefits.

State minister of public service Seize Mbaguta told parliament’s committee on public service and local government that former vice president Gilbert Bukenya the committee has been receiving his retirement benefits of 4m for 38 months now.
And like the other past vice presidents Specioza Kazibwe and Apollo Nsibambi, the ministry has not been able to give them the car and house purchase fund are since their request to have this money of 1.250bn was denied by the ministry of finance.

Bukenya has recently been in the news, repeatedly accusing the Government of selectively paying other former leaders and leaving him out.
The motion to summon the former vice president and Busiro North mp Gilbert Bukenya to the committee was raised by Igara west Mp Raphael Magyezi to clear the air on who is telling the truth about this matter, and was supported by Kalungu woman mp Florence Kintu.
Another issue of controversy that came up in the committee was when the minister Seize Mbaguta said according to the retirement benefits act, a former leader is entitled to a greater benefit of the two positions if he/she is still serving government and no double.
This made Mukono Municipality mp Betty Nambooze question which benefit is Bukenya getting apparently since he’s a former vice president and an mp now.
Minister Seize Mbaguta also told the committee that government is committed to pay all former leaders as some have already received their retirement benefits.
Sir Edwaard Muteesa has so far been paid 400m, but others have not been paid yet like Idi Amin, Godfrey Binaisa, William Wilberforce Nadiope, but what’s hindering this is proper documentation and if given, government is willing to pay them all starting September.

Under the Emoluments and Benefits of the President, Vice-President and Prime Minister Act 2010, both leaders are entitled to pension, a fully furnished house, chauffeur-driven cars, fuel allowance, medical allowance, security guards and cash to cater for utility bills.
