The NRM caucus sitting that state house-Entebbe directed the attorney general Peter Nyombi to immediately withdraw his notice of appeal against the Anti-gay Act court ruling.
The constitutional court a week ago quashed the Anti-gay Act on grounds that it was passed without the quorum in parliament.
As a result, the AG went to Supreme Court and filed a notice of intention to appeal but the caucus chaired by president Museveni agreed to ask him to back off.
Caucus chairperson Justine Kasule Lumumba told a news conference at parliament that the caucus sat, debated and agreed to accept the ruling and no appeal should be made.
Flanked by David Bahati and Robinah Nabbanja, Lumumba added that even the NRM MPs who had appended their signatures on the Latif Sebaggala petition to have the Anti-Gay Bill returned to parliament soon should abandon this path until a nine0member committee set up by the caucus finalizes its internal scrutiny of the entire petition that challenged the anti0gay law.
It is upon that period that the caucus will sit and determine when to return the bill to parliament.
The committee includes VP SSekandi [chair], Jim Muhwezi, Stephen Tashobya, Idah Nantaba among others.
Lumumba said that in the meantime, anyone caught in sodomy should be charged under the penal code Act and the Anti-pornography Act.
