The outspoken women activist who is also the former minister of ethics and integrity Maria Matembe has condemned the way police arrested prostitutes yesterday in Kampala.

Speaking to journalists at parliament, Matembe says although the women arrested were prostitutes, the way police officers handled them discredited the dignity of a woman.
She adds that the massive levels of poverty and rampant unemployment in this country forces women to engage in prostitution for survival but it is not their desire to practice prostitution.
The angry Matembe further expressed dissatisfaction to police to why leaders of this country cited MPs who also involve in prostitution are not treated the same way police treats local people.
She says that most of legislators practice prostitution and they have children outside their marriages.
She further called upon police boss Kale Kaihura to reflect and understands the dignity of human beings especially the women.
Matembe’s concern comes when police yesterday under orders of commander for operations in Kampala metropolitan north Sam Omara arrested prostitutes from different rest houses in Kampala.
