Government calls unemployed to venture in honey production

The ministry for agriculture and animal husbandry Bright Rwamirama is now calling on Ugandan mainly those who are un employed to venture more into bee keeping so as to increase honey production in the country.

Rwamirama says that they have so far 47 district entomologists to work as honey inspectors adding to the 20 who have been available and notes that they intend to have more with each district to get atleast one entomologist.

The sector currently employees 1,200,000 people generating UGX.60Bn per season making it UGX.120Bn annually as Ugandan honey continues to dominate market by 85%.

With Uganda now having its largest population portion being youth, the minister is urging them to get more involved in bee keeping.

The minister said this ahead of the coming national honey show at kati kati starting 28th-30th this month.
