police and district officials ranked top for corruption

The 4th annual IGG’s report on corruption released today revels that there is still corruption at district administration, with more data in the report highlighting that 85% of the urban and 80% of the population confirm that corruption still heavily manifests in the country.

According to the report, pretty bribe cases cost the nation UGX.1O6Bn annually with police still leading in govt institutions having the vice followed by civil servants, judicial officials (35%) ministers and MPs with the clergy being the least in taking bribes.

Still the education and health sectors have not been spared by the vice as health workers’ absenteeism is high at health centers (iii&ii) with figure showing that at health center iii 46% and ii 48.2% health experts are absent and in schools 35% teachers are absent which affects service delivery at these institution to the general public.

Speaking at the launch of the report the finance minister, Maria Kiwanuka said, its very difficult to learn accountability and revealed that govt is under taking changes in the financial management system to check on the vice among govt entities.

But the state minister for ethics and integrity Fr. Simon Lokodo is calling on Ugandans to denounce the evil of corruption since Uganda is a God fearing nation.

However, the IGG, Justice Irene Mulyagonja notes that corruption undermines development in the nation and if not addressed it will continue to hinder meaningful national growth.
Still the world bank representative to Uganda, Mustafa Ndiaye wants govt to critically address the gaps existing that have given room for the corrupt to exercise their arms into stealing govt funds.
