Forest expert decries poor forest laws

The manager forest sub programme at Care international Uganda, Kandole Annet Balewa decries the poor and loose forest regulations in the country which she says are costing the country taxes mounting to UGX.10Bn every year.

Speaking to Annet in an interview over the mismanagement of forests in the country, she reveals that a district like Kyegegwa losses UGX.500million in missed taxes which she attributes to power governance among other loopholes at this level among other levels.

With such poor and unfair acts the country loses its natural resource as well as the money which would have been used to transform the nation trough better service delivery.

Though they have developed an ICT platform which locals use to report deforestation at grass root level, the strategy is still faced with huge challenges that need quick address.Cue.Platform.Eng.

She now calls on govt to come up with stringent laws to govern forest resource management and utilization by the general public in a bid to save the green cover of this nation.
