kadaga demand for more funding in sports

The speaker of parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has implored government to invest more funds into the games and sports fraternity.

The speaker has made the call while receiving athletes who were part of the Ugandan team which took part in the Youth Athletics Championship in Naijing China led by the president of the Uganda Olympics Committee William Blick who had paid a curtsey call to her office at parliament, where one Geoffrey Balimumti won a Silver Medal.
Rebecca Kadaga says that parliament has for long pressed government to priotize sports by allocating it funds in the national budget but in vain.

She expressed dismay over government officials who keep on celebrating whenever the national sports teams and personnel register some victories without facilitating them financially.

Kadaga has also pointed out the higher altitude training facility for the athletes which government had promised to construct in a bid to promote the athletics sport in Uganda whose progress is unknown.

She has therefore promised that parliament will rally behind the Uganda Olympics Committee ahead of the Youth Athletics Championship in Samoa next year.

In the same way the president of the Uganda Olympics Committee William Blick has said that the Uganda Olympics Committee has never received any funding from government to facilitate sports.

Blick noted that they only rely on funding from well-wishers, further noting that they require over UGX 100million to facilitate a team of 20 youths to Samoa in the forth-coming Youth Athletics Championship and this needs government support.
