Kyenjojo police has trained and passed out 1,233 crime preventers out
of who 400 are women.In the training that took two months, the
trainees were equipped with basic principles of police work, scene
management, basics of the law and patriotism.
While addressing the beneficiaries at Kyenjojo Secondary School
Playground in Kyenjojo Town, the District Police Commander Martine
Mbabazi noted that among the most common crimes is murder, arson,
theft,defilement and that to fight such crimes, the Police need to
work closely with the community members.
These according to police, will help the force in the fight against
the rampant crime in the district. They were passed out at a colorful
ceremony that was presided over by Kyenjojo Resident District
Commissioner (RDC), Peter Mugisha as the chief guest. Mugisha asked
the crime preventers to observe high level of discipline to work
closely with police and the locals to maintain law and order in their
areas of residence.
He said, the forces operate under strict discipline, something which
must be observed as they are now part of Uganda Police Force family.
He added that any acts of indiscipline would lead to their arrest and
prosecution as the law stipulates. Mugisha also advised the youth to
form groups so as to benefit from the youth livelihood program which
is supported by the government to help in fighting poverty in homes.
The recruitment covered all the twelve sub counties and two town
councils within Kyenjojo District. The local authorities were also
involved in the identification of the crime preventers.
