EALA speaker in fresh resistance

Fresh chaos has erupted in Arusha-based EALA with information suggesting that the speaker Margret Zziwa faces a fresh revolt.

Zziwa who recently survived a censure plot against her by members after the intervention of president Museveni mid this year is at it again with members moving to censure her again.

Out 45 members, 30 of them including two legislators from Uganda [Bernard Mulengani and Dora Byamukama] have signed the petition seeking to fire Zziwa from office.

They accuse her of five issues among which include mismanaging the assembly which they claim has caused the current paralysis in the assembly with some members resigning their positions and also absenting themselves.

The members met in Kigali on October 30 and resolved to move a vote of no confidence in ZZiwa as speaker of EALA.

The members resolved that the motion seeking to impeach the speaker which was shelved be urgently brought back to the house for consideration.

In their motion seen by us, the members claim that they are concerned that the continued paralysis is not urgently addressed will totally cripple the operations of the assembly and hence defeat the purposes for which it was created.

They claim that since all effort to find an amicable solution to the problem has been resisted by the speaker, they now resolve to censure her.
