The Parliamentary Committee on Commissions Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises has asked Civil Aviation Authority to produce documentations showing how United Nations came to occupy space at Entebbe International Airport.
Interfacing with the officials from Civil Aviation Authority to respond to Auditor General’s queries of 2012, lawmakers noted that United Nations has been occupying Airport space without paying ground rent and Civil Aviation is not aware.
The Committee also discovered that United Nations is supposed to pay over 30 billion shillings in rent but the Civil Aviation Authority cannot collect the rental fees because they do not have any written agreement for their stay at Entebbe.
Makindye East MP John Simbwa and other MPs wondered how a biggest client like UN can establish itself at Entebbe Airport without authorization by the CAA yet it is manages the Airport on behalf of Ugandans.
The Committee directed Civil Aviation to produce necessary documents indicating how UN came to Entebbe to prove that there in full control of the Airport.
Ssimbwa also noted that the committee would further pursue however is responsible for the UN’s occupy of the airport space.
