Civil society organizations under the National coalition of non-government organizations have criticized government for failure to adhere to the economic, social and cultural rights of Ugandans which could have improved people’s lives.

The Executive Director, Human Rights Network – Uganda, Mohammed Ndifuna, accused government of delaying to submit a report to UN on the status of economic, social and cultural rights, causing the absence of some policies in these sectors.

Ndifuna noted that national food and nutrition policy has not been implemented due to absence of structures for implementation. He said that crucial programmes that would have enhanced food security such as the National Agricultural Advisory Services have been politicized and contributed to increasing food prices affecting poor house hold. He stressed that water quality especially for rural communities is still far below the national standards because they get water from unprotected wells.

The Executive Director said that government has failed to adopt systematic programme to remove children from streets and reintegrating them into family environments.
