Government has authorized a total of 24 exporters to sell overseas fresh fruits and vegetables to European markets after meeting the required minimum standards. This happened as government examines the quality of agricultural produce being exported to the European market following reports of noncompliance to EU standards by a number of Ugandan exporters.
Several EU member countries had raised a red flag on Ugandan products due to poor standards and excessive chemicals. State Minister for agriculture Vincent Ssempijja says that 28 more exporters are being scrutinized noting that a technical team has been set up to ensure quality compliance to international standards
