Youth have demanded parliament to urgently amend the National youth council to provide a legal framework under which the youth are elected as Members of Parliament so as there is no vacuum for their existence in parliament. The youth told journalists in Kampala that parliament should prevail over government to table amendments related to how youth members of parliament are elected.
The aspiring Member of Parliament for youth, central region, Andrew Kiryowa, said that the government assertion for appealing in Supreme Court over the ruling that the presence of army, youth and workers MPs unconstitutional is a waste of time yet what is needed is to streamline the law.
Kiryowa said that it was wrong to give the Minister powers to determine who will vote or participate in the election of Members of Parliament yet the constitution under clause 78 section 3 mandates parliament to determine the procedures for the election of members of parliament.
Sarah Babirye Kityo who is also aspiring for youth MP central region said that the current members of parliament could have lost their seats but were favoured by government.
