The Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda has called for a concerted effort amongst African countries to pay special attention to the most vulnerable people in the society who include women, children and the youth. He said financing for health was critical and there was need to efficiently use the limited available resources.
Rugunda was speaking at the opening of the five day conference of operationalizing the Global Strategy for Women, Children and Adolescents Health. The conference took place at Speke Resort Munyonyo, was aimed at preventing deaths and to improve quality of health for the vulnerable groups. He said the conference provided an opportunity for participating countries to learn from one another about what has worked in order to improve health service delivery.
Twenty four African countries and partner organizations, including six UN Agencies are attending the Conference. It was a follow up on the excellent work by African countries in implementing the Global Strategy for Women, Children and Adolescent health. As part of Government’s effort to track and monitor implementation of priority programs, a delivery unit has been established in the Office of the Prime Minister.
‘Progress on Women, Children and Adolescents’ health will be followed’, Rugunda said.
