Hon Werikhe Kafabusa now Minister of State for Industry
President Museveni has made a mini cabinet reshuffle in which he has named veteran politician Kirunda Kivejinja as Third Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs. The President also appointed Bukedea Woman MP Rose Akol as the Internal Affairs minister, replacing the late General Aronda Nyakairima who passed away in September this year, Hon Werikhe Kafabusa was also appointed Minister of State for Industry replacing the late James Mutende who was then holding the same position.
The list now awaits the approval of Parliament before they are sworn in.
Some MPs have expressed mixed reactions over the newly appointed ministers by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Although members of parliament hailed the appointment of new ministers they were disappointed with the returning of Alhaji Ali Kirunda Kivedinda.
The Member of Parliament for Aruu county says that Kirunda is too old to be in that office, noting that he is past retirement. On the other hand, the Member of Parliament Ajuri county Obua Hamson says all the appointed ministers have a wealth of experience and have served in several positions which could please the appointing authority to ask them serve their country.
Kasilo county MP in Serere district Elijah Okupa says that the new appointments by the president are strategic for him to win the next presidential elections, adding that though the president has appointed Rose Akol as the minister for internal Affairs, Ateso still demand for compensation over the lost herds of cattle. The Member of Parliament for Buliisa county Stephen Mukitale Birahwa commended the president for appointing a woman for the ministry of Inter Affairs and urged her to ensure that police officer’s welfare is improved especially in providing them with houses.
