The minister of state economic monitoring also, Rubanda County West MP, Henry Banyenzaki says the NRM Party Secretary should work towards unifying a party instead of attacking the NRM losers who have stood on the Independent ticket. Recently, the NRM Party Secretary General, Justine Kasule Lumumba had been quoted saying that the NRM Secretariat will campaign against the party’s Members who will contest as independents after losing in Party Primaries.
Banyenzaki says he is ready to face off with his Party Executive Members who will be campaigning for the NRM flag Bearers. Banyenzaki proposed that the country goes back to individual merit under movement political system so that people choose their leaders according to competence. She added that the next parliamentary and local government elections will have more independents because many candidates are standing on individual merit.
Lumumba recently said that aspirants who will fail to get the party’s will have breached the NRM rules if they failed to rally before the officially elected flag bearer. In 2003, parliament amended the Constitution by referendum and the individual merit system was abandoned for elections by political party system.
