The member of parliament representing Lwemiyaga county Theodore Ssekikubo has attacked the electoral commission for locking out his bid for deputy speakership in the 10th parliament. According to the NRM road map for speakership primaries only gazzeted NRM members are eligible to vie or vote in these primaries which puts Ssekikubo in a tricky position to contest as the deputy speaker in the NRM party primaries since he is not among the gazetted members of parliament for the 10th parliament.
He said the electoral commission delay to gazzete him as Lwemiyaga MP is a complete move to stifle his political career because over 80 elected members have had their victory challenged but they have been gazzeted. He added that regardless of all foul play he will contest in speakership in NRM primaries dated 5th next month .
Patrick Nkalubo lodged the petition before the Masaka Chief Magistrate Samuel Munoba, demanding for a vote recount of the ballots from Lwemiyaga. Nkalubo lost the race to the incumbent area MP, Theodore Ssekikubo (NRM) on 8,074 to 9,272 votes respectively but later the case was referred to the Constitutional Court to determine its fate.
