Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) under their umbrella organization National Coalition of Human Rights Defenders want police to improve on the way cases involving breaking into their offices are investigated.
The coalition says that since 2013 over 22 civil society organizations’ offices have been broken into but up to now they are yet to receive any conclusive report or prosecution from police about these suspects.
The Executive Director Uganda Land Alliance, Edmond Malilo Owor says that they plan to engage the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Gen.Kale Kayihura to see how these cases can be properly investigated, suspects prosecuted and also see whether they can recover their property that is normally taken when their offices are broken into.
Owor was speaking during media training on how to promote the work of human right defenders at Hotel triangle in Kampala on Monday.
He also said that there is no need for new laws on land reforms, saying that the existing laws are sufficient to handle land issues.
Government recently promised to enact a new law on land to freely take over land to start up government businesses.
