Members of Parliament have expressed anger over the absence of ferry on Lake Kyoga basin to easily connect communities living around the water body and boast trade.
MP’s anxiety was prompted by a concern by the Kioga County, Anthony Okello who raised a matter of national importance before Parliament over government’s failure to procure BKK ferry to operate between Namasare and Zengebe on Lake Kyoga to serve Amolter, Nakasongola and some parts of Busoga and Teso.
Okello said that despite the President’s directive to the ministry of works to procure this ferry, people are still waiting in vain.
MPs who include; Women representatives of Amolter district, Doreen Ruth Amule, that for Buyende district, Veronica Kadoga, Bugabula South, Maurice Kibalya and Kaberamaido district, Veronica Eragu said that government
should speed up the procurement of BKK ferry because their people are suffering to cross waters.
The matter was also stressed by the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga when she informed Parliament that the procurement of this ferry has become long overdue because she had raised the same matter to government 20 years ago when she was still a member of parliament for Buyende area.
However, while responding to the matter, the Government Chief Whip, Ruth Nankabirwa told Parliament that they were about to commission five ferries and BKK ferry is one of them.
