Uagnda Government to pay Omukama Iguru's worker over torture

 

Government has agreed to pay 15million shillings to a former employee of the Omukama of Bunyoro kingdom over torture by UPDF soldiers.

The money is being paid as special damages for loss of earning for 18months, following the severe beating suffered.

Sam Kashure, who was in charge of opening boundaries of the Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru’s land in various villages around Bunyoro kingdom, says he was beaten into unconsciousness by a group of soldiers in 2003, in the course of his work.

Kashure says he suffered multiple injuries of renal cortex, body bruises, and fractured knees and fractured left kidney, which rendered him unable to work for 18 months.

The victim says he reported the case with the police in Hoima and filed a complaint with Uganda Human Right but did not get justice.

In the consent judgement reached before high court judge Musoke Kibuka, government has agreed to pay Kashure 15million shillings as compensation, special damages and costs of the suit.
