Standard chartered bank and other eye care partners have geared up efforts to raise 100 million dollars for child eye care and treatment so as to tackle avoidable blindness among children in Uganda.
The fund which is expected by 2020 will run the project to support the children with eye problem especially in Mubende area.
The Head of Corporate Affairs at Standard Chartered Bank, Hellen Nagonzi, says that the fund will focus on stopping blindness among children aged 0-15 years.
While speaking at the first crowning of the ‘Seeing Is Believing Child Eye Care’ project success at Speke Resort Munyonyo, the Education officer in charge of Special Needs at the ministry of Education, Jane Kantono, commended the child eye care partners for their effort in tackling avoidable blindness, saying it has reduced child school dropout caused by blindness.
The first child Eye care project treated 14, 3568 children against blindness since 2012 -2016.
