The Committee on Legal and Parliamentary Affairs has expressed disappointment with the government over the failure to get back to the committee regarding the Constitution Amendment bill 2017 within the stipulated time.
The Committee Chaired by West Budama MP, Jacob Markson Oboth-Oboth, on Aug 1, 2017 gave the Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban development Betty Amongi together with the Minister for Justice and Constitution Affairs, Maj.Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, up to two weeks to consult with their colleagues in Cabinet on the Constitution Amendment bill.
The request arose after the Ministers failed to answer fundamental questions on what the amendment intended to cure.
Oboth-Oboth says the delay has stalled the committee work since they cannot get views from other stakeholders’ before the official position of the government.
