The Minister of Uganda for Trade, Tourism and Industry, Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire has asked Uganda’s opposition politicians to stop hate campaigns.
He says the government of Uganda is about to order police to arrest and charge people with hate speech while addressing people on functions, political rallies, churches and in bars. Otafiire was addressing members of the press today in Kampala.
So many people in Uganda, especially in Kampala are talking hero on the forthcoming 2011 general elections in Uganda. Others are talking hero about the ruling government for forceful closure of radio CBS, denying the king of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi his constitutional right to move freely in the country and the government’s policy of creating non-traditional kings to disorganized Uganda’s historic kingdom, Buganda.
Otafiire says threatening violence and spreading hate campaigns against people from given regions is illegal in Uganda and the promoters will face the wrath of law.
Uganda is due to hold general elections in 2011. But most opposition leaders say the polls will not be free and fair because of reported vote rigging techniques employed by the ruling party.
