The Democracy Monitoring Group in Uganda has appealed to the government of Uganda to expedite investigations into the recent bomb blasts in Kampala and to ensure the perpetrators are punished.
The Coordinator of the DEMOGROUP, Sylvester Arinaitwe says many Ugandans are still in shock and fear following Sunday July 11 bombs that have killed more than 65 people and injured another about 56.
He told journalists in Kampala on Thursday that the government should this time carry out quick investigations so that Ugandans can be assured who caused such damage to the country and do everything possible to punish those responsible for the bombs.
Arinaitwe expressed concern that many investigations by the government never come to a conclusion or are never revealed, giving the case of human sacrifice cases, and appealed to the police and other security agencies to be responsive in these investigation on the bomb blasts.
The government has blamed the bomb blasts on the Somali militant group Al- Shabab and their allies the Al- Qaeda and the remnants of the Allied Democratic Forces rebels, although the official position is that investigations into the bombings are still ongoing.
Six people have so far been arrested in connection with the Kampala bombings, including a Ugandan named Ali Issa Sekumba linked to Al-Shaba who was arrested in Kenya.
Arinaitwe also appealed to the government to sensitize Ugandans on how they can detect and avoid the bomb blasts which might save lives of many Uganda.
The Spokesperson of the Uganda Police Judith Nabakoba says the police is working with other security agencies in the country and friendly countries to investigate the bomb blasts and activities of terrorists in Uganda.
