DFID has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the government for a grant of over 50 billion shillings to finance programmes under the Peace Recovery and Development Plan that that are aimed at
reconstructing Northern Uganda.

The Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by Pius Bigirimana the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Ministers and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development on behalf of the government whereas the Executive Head of DFID, Jane
Rintsul signed on behalf of DFID.

Pius Bigirimana after signing the memorandum at the Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development has pledged that the office of the Prime Minister will ensure that this money is put to good use and that the funds are used for their intended purpose other than being diverted.

Bigirimana also says he is happy that with DFID because it has stood with the government through its grants in the reconstruction of Northern Uganda through the PRDP and that this funding will go along
way in fulfilling the objectives of PRDP.

The programme will particularly support the Small Grants Scheme; support the Business Uganda Development Scheme (BUDS) to be implemented by the Private Sector Foundation and the expansion of the Northern Uganda Youth Development Center and DFID hopes through this it will be able to create about 10 thousand jobs for Ugandans.

DFID has already committed over 75 billion shillings under the NUSAF II programme which programme is aimed at constructing the much needed houses for teachers and health workers in the districts of Northern Uganda.
